160211: Servant Leadership

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.” (Matt 20:25)

The apostles where jockeying for positions of leadership in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus knew that something is wrong in their hearts so he taught his disciples an important lesson on leadership.

“Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,” (v26)

Greatness in the Kingdom of God is not measured by power or authority over others but on how we serve others when we are placed in position of authority.

“just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (v28)

We become great in the eyes of God when we identify with Jesus in His service and sacrifice.

To God be all the glory, honor and praise.

160114: Indwelt and Infilled to serve each other

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. “(Eph 5:21)

Paul points out a solution to unity and harmony.

For the peace of God to be in our family, our church, our government or our nation, there must be mutual submission between the one in authority and the one being governed.

To use our authority to build-up others and to respect the authority God has given others.

The spirit of God in us allow us to be submissive, humbly serving one another with joy and love in our hearts.

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” (Gal 5:25)

The Holy Spirit indwelling in us also infills us, leading us to minister to one another.

160110: Victorious

“With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.” (Ps 108:13)

David had great confidence that he will be victorious over his enemies because he consults the Lord first for guidance and direction in all major life decisions he makes.

Today we start a new year with the same great confidence.

The God who was with David then is the same God who is with us now.

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor 15:57)

Thank you Father God for the assurance of victory.

160107: Faith enables the power of God in us.

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5)

Jesus was teaching his apostles about forgiveness when they asked to “increase our faith.” But Jesus responds by saying that it is not the quantity of faith that is important but the power of God in us because if we have faith even the size of a tiny mustard seed we can do great things for the glory of God.

It is either you have faith or don’t.

And there is one sure way to have faith.

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.” (Rom 10:17)

Hear the words of Jesus. Read the bible. Accept God’s gift of faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and savior.

Let our faith enable the power of God in us to move us to do greater things. All for the glory of God.

151221: The Name above all names.

“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matt 1:21)

The angel revealed to Joseph God’s purpose for the birth of Jesus. To save His people from their sins. And by faith in Jesus we became God’s people:

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”(John 1:12)

With much rejoicing we start our week remembering what an awesome name Jesus is.

” Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil 2:9-11)

151218: Shepherd Leadership

‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.’ (Matt 2:6)

God in choosing a place where our King and Messiah will be born chose an unknown place. Not in a place of power nor in the capital city but in an obscure little town of Bethlehem. Born in a manger where animals feed. But our God is sovereign  and is in control. For a different kind of ruler was born one that came not to be served but to serve. One who will be a Shepherd to all.

The most powerful leader born in this world was our shepherd and Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.” (Ps 23:1)

When we submit to Jesus’ leadership we will never be in want. Jesus is all we need.
